Lakes & Landscapes (2016)
Lakes and Landscapes is a self-drawing artwork that uses random variables to create a “map” by moving a number of pixels randomly across the screen, leaving a trail that draws either land (in green) or lakes (in blue). As these pixels move across the screen, they create a map of their journey. The pixels may re-trace their steps or overlap onto another pixel’s trail, and so the process of creating this map is not a linear process, but one that is affected by the terrain generation of the others it shares the screen with. The resulting and ongoing image is reminiscent of Mandelbrot’s fractal patterns, especially regarding the measurement of a coastline.
